July 21 : Daniel Silva in Conversation with Maxwell L. Anderson

Daniel Silva has been called his generation’s finest writer of international intrigue and one of the greatest American spy novelists ever. Compelling, passionate, haunting, brilliant: these are the words that have been used to describe the work of award-winning, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Daniel Silva.

Silva knew from a very early age that he wanted to become a writer, but his first profession was journalism. After covering the Iran-Iraq War as a UPI Middle East correspondent, he returned to Washington to take a job with CNN. Silva began work on his first novel, an espionage thriller set during World War II. The Unlikely Spy became a surprise bestseller and garnered critical acclaim. His fourth novel, The Kill Artist, introduced a character described as one of the most memorable and compelling in contemporary fiction: the art restorer and sometime Israeli secret agent Gabriel Allon.

In The Fallen Angel (July 2012), an intoxicating blend of art and intrigue, Allon returns to Rome to restore a Caravaggio masterpiece for the Vatican and is summoned to Saint Peter’s Basilica, where the body of a woman lies beneath Michelangelo’s dome. Discovering that the dead woman had uncovered a world-threatening secret, Gabriel joins forces with a master art thief to penetrate a criminal smuggling network only to find an old enemy is plotting an unthinkable act that will result in apocalyptic conflict. Silva discusses this novel on stage with his friend and advisor Maxwell L. Anderson, The Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art.
