Movie : ESPN – First Pitch

This past Saturday I attended a screening of this powerful moment in time captured by this incredible documentary, which was produced by my cousin, Linda Carlson and directed by her husband Angus Wall, who won two academy awards for editing Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. George and Laura Bush were in attendance and I had the opportunity to meet with them. What do you say when you meet a former President of the United States? What came out of my mouth was “I heard you painted a portrait of the Dali Lama”. We then discussed art, his paintings, and the interesting fact that George (69) and the Dali Lama (80) share the same birth date.

It was the pitch that inspired a nation. A pitch that gave hope to America in the midst of a dark and uncertain time. Former President George W. Bush says he was really nervous before throwing out a post-9/11 first pitch during the 2001 World Series. 14 years after the deadly 9/11 attack, ESPN is going to shed some light on the event during this season of 30 for 30. Look behind-the-scenes at the game’s historic moment with a special screening of 30 for 30: First Pitch, detailing President Bush throwing out the first pitch in Yankee Stadium post-9/11

Baseball is a topic close to the 43rd president’s heart. He began playing as a Little Leaguer in Midland and had had a lifelong love for the game. He was managing general partner of the Texas Rangers for five years. “First Pitch” airs on ESPN on Sept. 11.
