I recently returned from Colorado, where I met with a Carmelite priest who suggested I read this book. I love the Carmelite branch of Christianity. The Order of the Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or Carmelites is a Catholic religious order founded in the 12th century on Mount Carmel, hence its name. They get into the meditation of the scriptures and live a more charismatic, or spiritually focused, life. With my Catholic background and as a lover of philosophy, I feel you will enjoy this book, for it is a great read in these interesting times.
Many in the church who are wrestling with ministry in a postmodern era view deconstruction as a negative aspect of the postmodern movement. But John Caputo, one of the leading philosophers of religion in America, sees it differently. In this lively and provocative analysis, he argues that in his own way Jesus himself was a deconstructionist and that applying deconstruction to the church can be a positive move toward renewal.
