January 19 : The Joffrey Ballet

TITAS Presents the 100th anniversary of dance’s most influential work, The Rite of Spring, with The Joffrey Ballet’s groundbreaking reconstruction of the original Ballets Russes production with live orchestra for two performances only.

Igor Stravinsky’s score and Vaslav Nijinsky’s choreography for the 1913 Paris premiere sparked a riot that is said to have given birth to modern music and dance. The Joffrey’s meticulous recreation of the historic production first debuted at The Music Center during the Joffrey’s residency in Los Angeles in 1987. It took Millicent Hodson, along with collaborator and husband Kenneth Archer over 15 years to piece together original scores, paintings, reviews, notes and first-person accounts to unearth the alarming genius of the work. Equally innovative in its presentation of revolutionary new works today is The Joffrey Ballet who remains to be one of the world’s finest companies and a leading artistic force since its founding in 1956.
