Movie : Bright Star

A moving tale of love, passion and loss, Bright Star is the story of 19th century British poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne. The film is a poignant homage to love that comes unbidden and becomes an overwhelming force that sweeps the lovers. Keats produces some his most ornate verses during his courtship and Fanny, a pragmatic girl who “can’t figure out poetry”, begins to recite eloquent verse. But alas, their passion is too short lived. John Keats dies of tuberculosis at the age of twenty five; his love unconsummated and his genius still under appreciated by the critics of his time.

Australian actress Abbie Cornish lends a mesmerizing vitality to Fanny Brawne and Ben Whishaw epitomizes the dreamy, brooding and frail poet.

The film was nominated for this year’s academy awards for best costume design.
A hauntingly beautiful story, a must watch… Now available on DVD.
