With our magical fall weather comes another Home Tour Season. The historic Lakewood Home Tour was and still is the epitome of home tours, leading the way for the many others which have come about.
A big Thanks to all the great beings who have opened their homes and their hearts. It’s never easy and these days the joke is it’s cheaper to write a check to the charity then preparing your home for the public. My personal home on West Lawther was on the Lakewood Home Tour about 15 years ago, back when Lakewood was simpler and times were less extravagant. The thought of new construction and tear downs was non existent. Being a minimalist and living a more or less monastic lifestyle, I had very little furniture. In one bedroom, I had only a rocking chair and my Irish grandfather’s historic photo of the Kennedy Brothers … Birthing the phrase “Visit the Kennedy Room” by the Lakewood Advocate. That was wild. People thought I was related to JFK. I would say… “No, I’m SFC. Scott Fitzpatrick Carlson.” LOL!
This was back when Lakewoodites drove used Suburbans, gathered together to protect their Lake, and had a great vision … Refining and building an exemplary elementary school system all on their own!
