Lakewood Salutes Vickie Thompson

The sadness and the beauty …when a great being leaves the planet.

I learned of the sudden passing of this remarkable Lakewood resident late Tuesday afternoon before the Lakewood Country Club fireworks were to begin.

I must honestly say; a huge smile came to me when I thought of this exceptional Lakewood legend leaving this way. Doing what she loved most, serving her community and neighborhood. Saying goodbye to all the many excellent people, the charming and splendid area she loved most, with a Big Bang. Full of all her multiple bright colors and all the light and joy of this glorious tradition we have all come to call “The Lakewood Fourth of July Fireworks”!!!

The beauty and the sadness. Vickie loved everyone and everyone loved Vickie.

I met Vickie Thompson over 30 Years ago when I first started selling real estate, Vickie was so nice to me and Vickie was everywhere!!! Even way back then, with my catholic heritage, I remember thinking, “This woman is a Saint”.

In the Indian Yogic tradition, there is a powerful spiritual practice called “SEVA”, which the translation means “selfless service”, offering all the fruits of your actions to God. To me…this was Vickie Thompson.

Serving her community and her family was the essence of this very beautiful and unique high being. From our local Christmas “Light up Lakewood”, to the Home Tours, the Public-School Events and of course, our own dynamite Lakewood 4th of July Parade.

I remember a few years ago when Vickie’s kids had graduated and were long gone and she was down the hall from my office in a vacant space working late in the night sewing costumes for the Woodrow Wilson High School Musical. My assistant Patrick and I would be working late and we would go down and hang with Vickie and these amazing women and see what they were working on each night. We had so much fun. We would help and try on the costumes and wear the wigs and just play and laugh and act like children. That was Vickie. She loved to have fun and in her volunteer work, she, and we all, had a blast.

Vickie Thompson will be missed, and our hearts and thoughts go out to her family and friends. Reflecting on this amazing person and all her accomplishments, I know that Lakewood would not be the authentic and generous community we are without the love, support, and tireless efforts of Vickie Thompson.

Thank you Vickie.

Many Prayers and Blessings to you and your beautiful soul. I know you will enjoy the next phase of your journey. Peace be with you and your beautiful family.
