In “I Feel Pretty”, an ordinary woman who struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy on a daily basis wakes from a fall believing she is suddenly the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. With this newfound confidence she is empowered to live her life fearlessly and flawlessly, but what will happen when she realizes her appearance never changed?
“I Feel Pretty” hasn’t fared well with critics, many of whom have taken issue with the script’s convoluted message about beauty standards. But most have found reason to praise Schumer and Williams, who elevates the rather two-dimensional figures with a clever performance. Self-confidence is also the theme of “I Feel Pretty.” Schumer said she hopes that women will see the film and walk away feeling more empowered to tackle life’s challenges, especially teens who can be subjected to bullying.
