The Martian is a science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon. The film is based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel The Martian. Damon stars as an astronaut who is presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission. This may be one of the few times that a movie adaptation is better than the book.

Look like we are ahead of the curve. Last October we chose The Martian novel as a pick of the week. One year later, the film adaptation has come out and scientists are finding water on Mars. What a time to be alive! Where will we be next year?
