Tesla @ NorthPark

Tesla Motors’ showroom at NorthPark Center might as well be a museum that shows us a glimpse into the future. The Tesla gallery lets shoppers look at the cars then take them for a test drive. I would recommend booking some seat time with Conner in the world’s fastest SUV, a Model X P100D. If you’re nice, he will let you hit the roads in “Ludicrous Mode”.

The only caveat is that you cannot buy one there. That’s because Texas law prohibits Tesla from selling its vehicles directly to the public because the company doesn’t have a franchise dealer. Though a formidable obstacle, the long arm of the law hasn’t stopped California-based Tesla from moseying on over to Texas with its electric cars in tow.

Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers in Silicon Valley who wanted to prove that electric cars could be better than gasoline-powered cars. With instant torque, incredible power, and zero emissions, Tesla’s products would be cars without compromise. Each new generation would be increasingly affordable, helping the company work towards its mission: to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

The current line up includes the Model S sedan, The Model X SUV, and coming this Fall, the Model 3 sedan, which starts at $35,000. Tesla owners enjoy the benefit of charging at home (like our 6832 Westlake with 4 chargers!) so they never have to visit a gas station or spend a cent on gasoline. For long distance journeys, Tesla’s Supercharger network provides convenient access to high speed charging, replenishing half a charge in as little as 20 minutes. Superchargers now connect popular routes in North America. Business Insider documented their cross country road trip from San Francisco to New York in a Model X.
