TV : Velvet

I love this series. The fashion, the acting, the sets and even the cinematography & lighting are fantastic. They play 1950’s period American music, which is so fun.

My friend De Lois Faulkner turned me on to this series. I’ve been binging all week and I must say, it’s been a fresh escape from all the drama of this election cycle. The thing I like most is that even in the midst of the drama, the characters are still respectful to one another. Respect!!! What a concept to explore in 2016.

Yes, you have to read the translated subtitles, which I have found is an even better distraction. For I have become one of these people that lay in my bed watching a movie and working on my computer, then switching to my iPhone. Crazy!!! Well with this dynamic, beautiful show, you have to stay focused and read.

Alberto (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) has been left to run a store called Velvet, one of the most prestigious fashion stores in Spain, by his late father. Velvet is a Spanish television series (English subtitles available on Netflix). It takes place in the 50′s / 60′s and displays the beautiful clothing and cars from that era. The main storyline of the show is the business decisions surrounding the continuation of the fashion store and the steamy love story of Alberto, heir of Galerías Velvet, and Ana (Paula Echevarría), who works as a seamstress there.
