September 8 : Sara Hickman Concert

As a former resident and lover of Lakewood, deep in the heart of Dallas, TX, Sara Hickman has done more than her share of contributing to the rich culture and vibrant life of the city. In May 2010, Sara Hickman became the Official State Musician of Texas, following in the footsteps of the legendary Willie Nelson. Using this title, Sara has helped families create together and bring art programs into public schools. As a result of these attempts, a ground-breaking album The Best of Times was created. A compilation of Sara’s songs recorded by other amazing Texas musicians including Willie Nelson, Marcia Ball, Shawn Colvin, and Ruthie Foster, the album was sold with all proceeds going to the Theatre Action Project, a group dedicated to putting art, music, and theater back into public schools. In addition to creating beautiful music, Sara has contributed in countless ways to the Dallas community.

Most recently, Sara released Absence of Blame, including 13 songs of sorrow and redemption. Come see Sara play selections from this album and more at Poor David’s Pub, and witness a brilliant Texas musician create and inspire beauty and wonder.
