In its inaugural season, ENGAGE at the Bush Center will bring exciting authors, thought leaders, and innovators to the SMU campus and the greater Dallas community for lively conversations about leadership and current events. In addition to thought-provoking guest lectures, ENGAGE at the Bush Center also grants members behind-the-scenes access to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, including exclusive opportunities to preview the season’s special exhibits.
This week’s special guest is Gayle Lemmon, author of Ashley’s War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield. You may remember this book for our pick a few months ago, but just to remind you here is a synopsis.
In 2010, the U.S. Army Special Operations Command created Cultural Support Teams, a pilot program to put women on the battlefield alongside Green Berets and Army Rangers, gaining access to places and people that had remained out of reach for male soldiers in a conservative, traditional country. In Ashley’s War, Gayle Lemmon tells the story of CST-2, a unit of women hand-picked from across the Army, and the remarkable hero at its heart: 1st Lt. Ashley White. Tickets for this event are complimentary. Copies of the book may be purchased on-site for $26.99.
