Flag Pole Hill Playground Opening

The City of Dallas will soon open their new “all-ability” playground at Flag Pole Hill, one that will consist of all-inclusive elements that will allow independent play for children and adults of all abilities.

The playground cost approximately $750,000 and will be paid for through a combination of 2017 bond dollars and matching financial support from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation, the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League, the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, and the Lake Highlands Women’s League. The idea and initial support for this project was initiated by For the Love of the Lake.

The involvement of the foundation of Dallas native and PGA Tour pro golfer Jordan Spieth is a personal one, as Spieth’s sister, Ellie, has special needs. Helping youth with special needs is one of four philanthropic areas on which the foundation focuses.

In addition to the playground allowing for play for people of all abilities, parts of the playground will be built underneath trees to both provide shade and preserve the live oak trees in the park.

After years of planning and fundraising, a national celebrity will be on hand to cut the ribbon for the Signature Play Ground for People of All Ages and Abilities at Flag Pole Hill – Jordan Spieth. Also in attendance will be the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League, Lake Highlands Women’s League and For the Love of the Lake.
