Homestead Exemption

home
If you purchased a home in Texas before the new year, you have until April 30, 2019 to utilize the advantages of your purchase and file for a residential homestead exemption – a legal exemption that removed part of the home’s value from taxation. With this exemption, homeowners can potentially save thousands on property taxes, depending on the value of the home.

There are two steps to file:

1) Change your driver’s license address and verify that ownership has changed and the tax rolls reflect your new ownership by contact your local county appraisal-district office. Homeowners may verify via the property search feature available on the appraisal district office website.

2) Download the application for Residential Homestead Exemption form from your appraisal district website. Complete it and follow the mailing instructions.
