Running with Bonnie and Clyde

I’ve always been fascinated with Bonnie and Clyde. I just watched the new Netflix film about their life and this Interesting tour popped up in my email feed. I forgot about Bonnie and Clyde both being from Dallas.

Join the Dallas Historical Society and uncover the lives of the famous outlaw lovers from Dallas, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, with author John Neal Phillips. Tour will include lunch at El Fenix.

Although they covered a lot of territory during their two-year-long crime spree (1932-1934), Dallas, Texas was Bonnie and Clyde’s hometown and they returned often, usually to visit relatives. Occasionally, they also ran afoul of the law while in town. Not surprisingly, there are a number of places in or near Dallas with which they are associated and some can still be seen.

This intriguing tour will include a visit to both graves, the Back Door to Dallas (which is an abandoned bridge), several sites on Swiss Avenue and West Dallas, Bonnie’s old elementary school, the gas station where Clyde’s parents lived, and a duplex that still has bullet holes from a shoot out.

Clyde Barrow loved V8 powered Fords. Mostly because they allegedly ran 30mph faster than the police cars. He wrote Henry Ford directly in April 1934, praising the performance potential of Ford’s V-8, “For sustained speed and freedom from trouble the Ford has got every other car skinned”.
