Sir Richard Branson, who launched a travel and entertainment network that spans oceans, began putting his stamp on North Texas last month with the official ground-breaking for Virgin Hotels Dallas, located in the Design District. And in a nod to the region’s cowboy roots, he rode in on a horse, accompanied by Miss Texas.

Virgin Hotels, a hotel brand of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, is planning to locate a new 200-room hotel in Dallas’ Design District on Hi Line Drive at Turtle Creek Boulevard. The hotel will be managed by Virgin Hotels and developed by Dallas-based Dunhill Partners, Vinculum Partners and The Crosland Group. The hotel is expected to be open in 2018.

“We’re ecstatic to be part of the new fabric of the Dallas Design District, and play a role in continuation of the neighborhood’s growth, Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal said in a prepared statement.

Plans for the hotel include luxury suites, restaurants and bar areas, as well as a rooftop terrace with a pool, spa and gym. The hotel also includes numerous meeting spaces, officials said.
